Z woke up to the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" playing on his alarm clock. Rain was pouring heavily on the tin roof of his trailer, as thunder shook the small caravan building. He sarcastically muttered to himself, "Groovy..." before crawling out from under the disheveled sheets.
There was a frantic rapping at the door. Z immediately switched off his monitor, cussing to himself. He knew he should’ve drawn the curtains more tightly. Something outside noticed the light glimmering through the window. He got on all fours to crawl over to the entrance to his caravan, standing to grab his shot gun and engage it. The owner of the knocking yelled, “Please! Let me in! I’m begging you!” Z was probably going to hate himself for this but he unlocked the deadbolt and cracked the door open to see a young woman with a tear stained face. As desperate as she was, she still looked human as compared to what he generally found running around out there. He shook his head, prying the door open further and dragged her inside by the arm. He then slammed the metal portal shut, clicking the locks and hoping to Jovah nothing out there got their curiosity piqued.
After a deep breath and making sure nothing else came to his doorstep, he turned to be smack dab against the wide eyes of the hysterical young woman. That was too close for comfort, as he gave an “ahem” and gradually brushed his hands against her to push her out of his bubble. He ran his brusque palm against his brow, wondering all sorts of questions. But, he needed to get to business first. Upon brief inspection, she was obviously a human. She was far too alert, if not on the raggedy side. “Girl, I don’t know where you came from, but you ain’t from round here, is ya?” She timidly shook her head as he continued, “First things first, you got to strip.” She was affronted, “How dare you?” “Look here, girl. I ain’t gonna do nothing but make sure you ain’t been bit outside.” “I can assure you, sir, that I have not been bitten by anything.” “I don’t know you from Eve, and you can either let me give you a look over or you can go out and spend the night outside. It don’t make no difference to me.”
